Public Health Unit and Specialty Clinic launched in NCMH

The National Center for Mental Heath Community Service inaugurated its Public Health Unit and Specialty Clinic last August 18, 2005 at Pavilion II. Guest of Honor was Dr. Ethelyn P. Nieto, DOH Undersecretary, Health Program Development Cluster.

It was attended by DOH Assistant Secretary Juanito Rubio, the different chiefs of DOH Hospitals and officials of Mandaluyong Medical Society, City Health Officers and Corporate Partners in the Pharmaceutical Industry who support the establishment of hospital unit dedicated to public mental health.

The Public Health Unit, located at Pavilion II, is open weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. During weekends, holidays and after office hours all inquiries are directed to the social worker on duty at the Emergency Room.

The NCMH Public Health Unit aims to ensure the delivery of comprehensive and quality mental health care to the public. It specifically aims to disseminate information about mental health and mental health services to increase awareness about this often misunderstood disease. Furthermore, it disseminates information on the priority programs of the Department of Health.

The establishment of the Public Health is a response to DOH Administrative Order 130 s. 2000 that targets the integration of appropriated and priority public health programs into hospital services.

Its functions include the development of a specific hospital framework and plan of action for a comprehensive quality health care that will ensure access of clients to preventive, promotive partly curative and rehabilitative health services through networking.

It is the coordinating body of NCMH in areas of implementing public health programs and services with the Center for Health Development (CHD) and the National Center of the DOH.
